Get Uncomfortable
Get Uncomfortable is another Bible study by Lifeway’s Threads. Having been introduced to the Threads study curriculum, I wanted to check out another one of their works. The title, “Get Uncomfortable” and the caption on the back of the book caught my attention. The study really follows the revelation of a Washington D.C area pastor. What do I mean by revelation? Well, Todd Phillips’ (the author) eyes were enlightened to the Gospel’s call to what I will call “Gospel-personified acts of compassion.” If you have never studied the Bible’s teaching on social acts of compassion, I would highly recommend this study to you! As you will learn through the study, the Scriptures teach an absolutely inseperable relationship between the Gospel and acts of compassion. Helping meet the needs of our broken world literally shows the Gospel in action. Only by the grace and mercy of God do any of us call ourselves Christians. God reached His hand out to us, rescuing us from our sinful pit of destruction. We did not deserve His love. We did not do anything to merit His love. This is the awesome Gospel of which share! Now, that same Gospel is gloriously pictured through us as we graciously extend our love to real tangible needs. Do you see it? It is as we are personifying this Gospel that we gain a platform to then proclaim the Gospel! This is the exact pattern Jesus implemented in His ministry as well as His follower’s ministry (apostles, etc.). I trust these brief words will peak your curiosity!
