Moody Classics brings Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret (Moody Classics)in a newly published edition to continue spreading the story of Hudson Taylor’s work for God in China (Taylor started the China Inland Mission, today known as OMF: A Heart for Asia). To some, the story of Hudson Taylor may be a familiar one. To others, however, time has a way of causing us to forget some of these great men of God from the past. Taylor lived a life gripped by God’s power and infused with faith in Divine faithfulness. As I read, I learned that Taylor and George Mueller were contemporaries. It is an interesting comparison, noting the relentless faith and Spirit enabled results in the lives and ministries of both Taylor and Mueller. Among many things, Mueller actually trusted God to bring in the necessary finances allowing him to support Hudson Taylor’s missionary endeavors throughout China. Taylor himself learned a great spiritual secret, as the title of the book suggests. What is his great spiritual secret? You’ll have to pick up a copy for yourself to fully learn this “secret.” Summarizing though, it seems God brought Taylor through a process of tests pointing him to the glorious truth of God’s faithfulness and finished work of salvation, sanctification, and provision. Resting securely in the promises of God in His Word, Taylor experienced a faith firmly rooted in God’s immutable ability to never forsake His own and accomplish His redemptive purposes through the redeemed.
