How to Help People Change
by Jay Adams lays forth a four-step method to seeing effective Biblical change amidst Christ followers. The goal of all counseling, especially Biblical counseling, is lasting change. Adams writes, “Your task as a counselor, who is engaged not merely in teaching facts, but in changing people so that they pursue righteous living, is to learn to use Scripture to replace sinful habits and lifestyles with biblical ones.” (page 194) Adams further writes on the essential practicality of this topic of helping people change, “Too frequently, even in conservative churches, people excel in Bible quizzes but do not know how to use the Bible on Thursday at work, in school, or at home.” (page 27) How to Help People Change
stands as an essential book for the believer’s bookshelf.
